The exhibition spotlights sixteen 20th-century artists who have been central to The Drawing Room's program since the gallery's inception in 2004. Each forged formative relationships and enduring bodies of work within the historic post-war community that emerged on Long Island’s East End. From Costantino and Ruth Nivola's arrival in the East Hampton hamlet of The Springs in 1948 and Fairfield Porter's move to Southampton in 1949, through the ensuing decades, the region has provided a place for shared experiences and inspiration across generations. The paintings, sculpture, works on paper and fiber art on view reveal unique directions each artist pioneered as well as intersections in their aesthetic explorations.
