Painting Place I: Nell Blaine • Jane Freilicher • Fairfield Porter • Albert York

From July 24th through August 31st The Drawing Room is pleased to present  PAINTING PLACE I, focusing on four influential figurative 20th-century American painters: Nell Blaine, Jane Freilicher, Fairfield Porter, and Albert York. Works on veiw include rarely seen paintings and watercolors from a distinguished private collection assembled over several decades. 

Since the late 19th century, artists have migrated to the Eastern tip of Long Island, retreating from the city to draw inspiration from the region’s open space and dramatic coastline, and in the mid 20th century, a second wave of artists established a close knit community.  Part II of the exhibition will spotlight paitings by Lois Dodd, Sheridan Lord, and Jane Wilson.
