Laurie Lambrecht: Photographs & Knitted Sketches

The Drawing Room is pleased to present "Laurie Lambrecht | photographs & knitted sketches,"  on view April 11 through May 18.

Laurie Lambrecht's exhibition brings together three related bodies of work that evolved from her extensive exploration of the tropical landscape surrounding the Rauschenberg Artist Residency program on Captiva Island, Florida. For the Jungle Road series, Lambrecht photographed lush flora under the dense canopy, concentrating on the interplay of linearity in nature with prismatic light effects. In these photographs, Lambrecht exploits depth of field to powerful effect. The layered abstractions feature delicate rhythms of cascading vines in a foreground space that dissolves into patches of color and deep shadow. Eschewing contextual cues that would situate the viewer in a recognizable landscape, Lambrecht claims freedoms in this work that are more often associated with non-objective painting and drawing
